Oxford AGM a great success
Over 120 WAY members gathered in Oxford on Saturday March 6 for another successful annual meeting.
People gathered to eat in Oxford on Friday night, thanks to the Oxford group who coordinated drinks and dinner, and SWANS regulars also met up for dinner.
Confidence trainer Mike McClement gave members some tips on how to feel more confident in social and work situations, and after lunch choir leader Roz Walker helped us form a WAY choir from scratch!
Though many members were a little doubtful before we began, the singing was a great success, sounded brilliant and everyone had a lot of fun – even the people who were listening.Â
The business section included reports from chairman Caroline Doughty, general secretary Martin Smith and treasurer Susan Abberton.
Five new committee members were elected and several others volunteered to take on roles from being an area contact to organising Christmas cards for this year.
In the evening we had a delicious meal and then everyone let their hair down and the dance floor was packed from 9pm till midnight.
Dozens of new friendships were formed, email addresses swapped and experiences shared. The AGM is a unique event and its slightly more relaxed format certainly seemed to go down well this year.

Hi,
I am just writing to thank you for a wonderful weekend. It was my first AGM and it was a bit daunting walking in to a room where 120 people where and I only knew 3!! – but meeting new faces of a similar age and problems was great. I found the tutorial session very good I went to the one about teenagers, what a releif it was to know what my 17yr old was doing what had been experienced by many others, and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I really enjoyed the singing it made me realise how much pleasure you get and I have deceided to join a local choir as a way to being positive and for pleasure..
The Sat evening was great fun -nice to let your hair down!
Many thanks again the Way group have great in offering help, support and encouragement.

Hello,
This was my 5th AGM and every year that I come, I realise just how far I have come on this long journey. Others (who have met me before) commented on this too, saying that I was more confident and looked well.
I wonder why I have been coming for the last 5 years and I now know that I can now start putting back in to WAY what I previously gained from it.
I loved the singing workshop – can we include this every year? Very therapeutic.
Thank you once again for a lovely weekend .
