About us
Who We Are
In 1994, Caroline Sarll's sister Mandy was widowed at 35. She was pregnant with her first child. Their father had died young 25 years previously, leaving their mother a young widow, isolated and unable to find support outside the family
Recalling her own grief as a child, and the experience of her mother, Caroline tried to find help and support for Mandy. After discovering the woeful lack of any type of organisation in the UK for those widowed young, she set one up herself, and WAY was launched in 1997.
Ten years on...
We are proud to be celebrating our tenth anniversary in 2007 and now have around 1,500 members across England, Scotland and Wales.
Our organisation has grown from support meetings to lively social groups that meet up throughout the year and across the country. We have organised weekends away, parties and picnics and are growing all the time.
All our groups are run by volunteers, all of whom are widowed themselves, which means everyone you meet in WAY will understand something about what you've been through. There is a bond between members and despite their grief they know how to laugh and have fun. Supporting each other is a great way to learn how to live again, after the trauma of watching a loved one die.
